First edition, first impression. 226pp. Olive green cloth-covered boards embellished with blind embossed decoration. 8vo. Boards are worn and faded rubbed and rounded at corners and spine ends and spine has been repaired with modern tape along its length. Text block edges dusty and toned. Some mild marks and annotations on endpapers, previous owner's name neatly inked on the title page. Some toning in page margins and binding weakened and fragile - while still holding the volume requires careful handling.
A philological work by James Gurnhill examining the history and development of the English language through a comparison on the older Breeches Bible (a Geneva Bible translation) with contemporary 19th-century English. Very hard to find in its original edition.
