78pp stapled booklet, with some illustrations, figures and maps in text, in illustrated stiff card covers.  8vo.  A little gentle edge wear to slightly soiled card covers.  The last leaf of the booklet protrudes a little and therefore has some bumping on the fore edge.

Elis Gruffydd, also known as the Soldier of Calais, was a Welsh chronicler of the 18th century.  His most well-know work is the massive Chronicle of the Six Ages, recording human history from the days of Adam and Eve to 1552.  This is his eye-witness account of the 1542 war between England and France.  Gruffydd was a fully paid up member of the 'poor bloody infantry' and although he reached the rank of Captain, his sympathies lay with the sufferings of the rank and file rather than the aristocratic war leaders.
