Eleanor Rathbone (1872 – 1946) was a long-term campaigner for family allowance, women's suffrage (in Britain and India) and women's rights, and an outspoken opponent of appeasement in the years before the second world war.  She was an independent Member of Parliament for the  Combined English Universities.
