xxx, 362, [vi]pp, with many, many black and white illustrations in text and some black and white plate illustrations.  Quarter bound in grey cloth over green cloth-covered boards with black lettering front and spine.  Green endpapers. 12mo.  Covers are worn and faded, a rubbed and rounded, with some chipping on corners and spine ends, slightly soiled and shelf worn.  Text block edges a little toned.  Internally neat, clean, bright and tight.

A wonderful exploration of the history of British costume and dress from pre-historic times to the late 19th century, generously illustrated (there are for instance, twelve different styles of bodice from the time of Charles I shown), with the last forty or so pages devoted to patterns for authentically recreating styles of the past.
