George Bellairs was the pen name of Harold Blundell (1902-1982), a crime writer and banker who also wrote under the name Hilary Landon. Most of his books featured Detective Inspector Thomas Littlejohn - the first Littlejohn story, Littlejohn on Leave, was published in 1941. This is the third in the series.
