A catalogued produced to accompany the Aftermath: France 1945-52 - New Images of Man art exhibition held at the Barbican Art Gallery, March to June 1982. The first decade after the second world ear was a period of both trauma and excitement in France, as the Fourth Republic was created from the ruins of wartime occupation. The ways in which contemporary artists recorded and responded to these events was the focus of this exhibition which featured the work of Giacometti, Gruber, Helion, Germaine Richier and others.
