The story of the notorious smuggling gang which operated throughout South East England in the mid 18th century.  The gang's dominance through terror extended from Hawkhurst, Kent - the village where the gang was started, at the Oak and Ivy Inn - all along the south coast, where they famously and successfully raided the Custom House in Poole.  After they were defeated in a confrontation with the Gouldhurst Militia in 1714, two of the gang's leaders,  Thomas Kingsmill and Arthur Gray, were executed.
