A late 19th century legal cause celebre, the Tichborne case concerned the claims of Thomas Castro (aka Arthur Orton) to be the missing heir of the Tichborne baronetcy.  Castro was eventually convicted of perjury and sentenced to 14 years in prison, despite Lady Tichborne being convinced the claimant was her son.  The case was never fully resolved in the public mind.  But the Tichborne Affair contains another mystery -  riddle in the very nature of the case itself.
