First thus. x, 232pp, with monochrome plate frontispiece, eight further interleafed monochrome plates  and many line drawings in text.  Blue cloth-covered boards, gilt-stamped lettering on the spine. 8vo.  Cloth a little rubbed at corners and spine tips, perhaps a tad faded.  Upper text block edge dust dulled.  Attractive previous owner's bookplate on front free endpaper, together with neat pencil inscription, otherwise internally neat, clean, bright and tight.  In its original paper dust wrapper, toned, rubbed at edges, chipped at spine ends, sunned over spine.

Henri Pouratt enjoys a reputation in France as an indefatigable collector of the folk tales of his homeland - and his full collectors extends to three volumes.  Mary Mian has selected for this volume a representative sample of the whole: only one of the most famous, Beauty and the Beast, has been retained, but there are over forty more of great variety, but all French in characteristics.
